Exploring the Joys and Dislikes of January

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

When I saw this prompt, I said to myself, “Darn it. Yet again, I do not have a clear answer.” There is something I like and dislike about every month. I almost chose January as my favorite month, as I love how daylight increases every day for us who live in the northern hemisphere. On the down side, I dislike the bitter winter days it brings. I do appreciate the ability to enjoy the fruits harvested in the southern hemisphere. I look foward to tasting perfect Cara Cara oranges in January every year. The oranges arrive in produce sections of grocery stores before January, but they taste the best in January.

Something else I love about January is that practically every year, a respite from freezing temperatures comes near the end of the month, around the last two weeks. The temperature rises and it feels like it’s early fall. It lasts about three to four days. It reminds me that spring isn’t too far away, making the frigid days ahead bearable.
